The Power Of God

Our natural tendency is to desire a weak and impotent God, one that we can control rather than the God who is in control of all things. A God that was weaker than us would be an idol, a figment of our imagination. All manner of evil accompanies denying the power of God. Denying the power of God is rejecting Him. Denying and rejecting the power of God makes everything a man does evil. His power is at work everywhere. We should turn away from those that deny it. We must make certain that we are not one of them.

2 Timothy 3:2-5: For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Try to calculate what kind of power it would take to die and then revive yourself. Try to calculate what kind of power it would take to make a human body and then make it live for a hundred years or so. And then try to imagine making one that will last forever. Try to get an idea of what kind of power it took to create the universe. God has power to raise us from the dead physically. And He has the power to raise us from the dead spiritually. Can you even imagine all of the power that God has?

Matthew 28:18: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

John 10:17-18: Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Isaiah 45:12: I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Romans 1:16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

1 Peter 1:1, 5: Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, . . . 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Luke 5:24: But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.

He has power to make us the children of God.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

He has power to change us.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

He has power to change our lives.

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

1 Corinthians 4:20: For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

1 Thessalonians 1:5: For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Romans 13:1-2: Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Matthew 6:13: And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
